Systems Administrator

TITLE: Systems Administrator

Obscura is looking for an experienced systems administrator. As a systems administrator you will create and maintain our internal technology infrastructure. You will be responsible for the configuration, installation and maintenance of our desktops, servers, storage arrays and general network connectivity. You will work closely with the Director of Systems to research and deploy next-generation hardware and software, ensuring maximum uptime with minimal production pipeline friction.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Configuration and maintenance of high-availability production systems:
    • Servers, workstations
    • Large, high-speed SAN/SOFS arrays
    • Modern network systems (Mellanox, IP, etc)
  • Render farm capacity planning and maintenance
  • Administration of mail and collaboration services
  • Administration of core infrastructure (Active Directory domain, DNS, VLANs, WANs)
  • Backup and archival systems
  • First point of contact for all internal helpdesk requests

WE ARE LOOKING FOR AN INDIVIDUAL WITH:

Technical Skills:

  • Windows 7 & 10, MacOS end user support
  • Server 2008r2-2016, Linux (CentOS/Debian)
  • Python development and internal tooling
  • Cisco, Juniper, Mellanox switches and firewalls
  • Performance monitoring and bottleneck identification

Render Systems Manager (Art Dept)

Obscura is looking for an experienced Render Systems Manager to help bring the creative vision of Obscura to life on a diverse mix of projects ranging from large-scale projections, high-resolution multi-display installations, and live events.

The Render Systems Manager will support the Art Department by helping to design workflow pipelines, maintaining the render farm, monitoring rendering processes, and QC’ing deliverables. They also work with the systems infrastructure teams to make sure the media department’s workstations and render farm are running smoothly.

Responsibilities:

  • In-depth technical knowledge of AE / C4D / Render Pipelines
  • Familiarity with Deadline render management software
  • Understanding of codecs, compression and digital deliverable formats

Staff Accountant (AP/AR)

TITLE: Staff Accountant (AP/AR)

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join our small but mighty accounting team. You will be a key player, responsible for all Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, while reporting to the Controller.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Full-cycle AP, including: Day to day communication with vendors and employees, ensure proper approvals and documentation for all invoices, prompt resolution of discrepancies, GL account coding, process check runs, collection of W-9 forms, and vendor database maintenance.
  • Process employee expense reimbursements.
  • Post credit card transactions to GL and reconcile to monthly statements.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll, including: Pull timesheet data and calculate gross wages (approx. 75 employees), work with HR to ensure all inter-period personnel updates are captured, input payroll data into on-line payroll system.
  • Full-cycle AR, including: Tracking customer contract terms to ensure timely and accurate billing, generating/distributing all invoices, regular follow-up customers to ensure prompt payment, escalation of collection issues as necessary.
  • Support the month-end close process, including AP and payroll accrual calculations.
  • Reconcile Petty Cash.
  • Assist with tax filings, including sales and use tax, forms 1095 and 1099, etc.   
  • Assist with other accounting and HR projects as needed.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience.
  • Ideal candidate will have some experience with all functions (AR, AP and payroll), but must demonstrate strong working knowledge of at least two of these areas.
  • QuickBooks experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with HR and benefits administration a huge plus.
  • Must be comfortable in a small-business environment – you will have to cover the phones from time to time.

Director of Web & Experiential Design

Responsibilities:

The Director of Web & Experiential Design will work as a member of the Obscura Digital creative team with responsibility for providing technology enhancements and connections to web and mobile interactive platforms for projects. Responsibilities will also include directing and leading assigned project resources during production to ensure that creative design is properly executed.

Specific job duties will include:

  • Transform interactive and experiential concepts into thoughtful and articulate user journeys through sketch, illustration, and writing.
  • Creative and software prototyping and Virtual Reality and Experiential design.
  • Augment concepts with interactive real-time feature sets and functionalities as they pertain to creative technology and mobile applications.
  • Create images using computer animation and modeling programs including CAD, Rhino and Sketchup.
  • Requires 2 to 4 trips per year to domestic and/or international client sites.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Digital Communications Design or related field.
  • 5 years of experience as a UX Developer, Interactive Developer or similar. We will accept 2 additional years of experience in lieu of a 4-year degree.

They also work with the systems, software and hardware departments to make sure the media departments’ computers are running smoothly and have the latest programs and plug-ins installed.

Interactive Engineer

Obscura is looking for an Interactive Engineer to act as the hub of a diverse team to integrate contributions into a final production ready system. Interfacing with a broad range of hardware and software systems, the Interactive Engineer is responsible for the final showtime operation of events, and software for installations. The IE leads the development of show and calibration systems, and completes setup and troubleshooting. Working on a project from conception through execution, this position benefits from a broad range of skills such as IT, realtime graphics, and scripting.

As an Interactive Engineer at Obscura, you will help to concept, design, and communicate a wide range of experiences ranging from passive to interactive, environmental to screen based, and physical to digital.

Responsibilities:

  • Pulls together input from other project team members into a cohesive and stable showready system
  • Sets up, calibrates, and operates show systems onsite often under extreme deadlines and pressure
  • Works with media team on specifying playback conditions and templates for proper content display and manage media assets
  • Applies best practices for efficient and effective development; looks for opportunities to streamline and fully use current and new technology solutions
  • Works closely with the Director of Software and Project Managers to ensure projects are delivered on time, to a strong level of quality and with expectations of high uptime.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implementing Content Management systems, browser based control interfaces, and browser based interactive experiences for client-facing projects based upon provided wireframes, and providing client-side documentation for operating those systems
