Systems Engineer

TITLE: Systems Engineer
LOCATION: San Francisco Office

Obscura is looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to help our creative and technical teams achieve the highest level of success in our groundbreaking immersive, conceptual, and interactive experiences. This role will report to our Director of Systems. We require someone who shares our passion and technical curiosity.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide infrastructure support and planning for new and existing installations.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical personnel.
  • Develop production forecasting for infrastructure projects.
  • Work on cross-functional teams to iterate creative solutions.
  • Work independently to achieve milestones.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Artistically minded engineering focus.
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or 4-6+ years of systems infrastructure engineering.
  • Highly proficient with logical and physical infrastructure modeling (Visio/Sketchup).
  • Deep understanding of IT infrastructure planning.

Technical Director

TITLE: Technical Director

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organize and engineer creative solutions with emerging display technologies.
  • Work cross-functionally with other Obscura departments in order to provide technical oversight and detail for current and upcoming projects.
  • Provide a technical bridge between the creative concepts and the engineered system.
  • Build site diagrams and calculate display systems.
  • Calculate ROMs and budgets quickly and efficiently.
  • Collaborate and inform the technical engineering team on plans and constraints.
  • Be not only the projection lead onsite, but also a skilled integrator.
  • Assist in building systems infrastructure.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Artistically-minded technical focus.

  • Highly proficient with 3D modeling (Sketchup, Rhino, etc).

Director of Web & Experiential Design

Responsibilities:

The Director of Web & Experiential Design will work as a member of the Obscura Digital creative team with responsibility for providing technology enhancements and connections to web and mobile interactive platforms for projects. Responsibilities will also include directing and leading assigned project resources during production to ensure that creative design is properly executed.

Specific job duties will include:

  • Transform interactive and experiential concepts into thoughtful and articulate user journeys through sketch, illustration, and writing.
  • Creative and software prototyping and Virtual Reality and Experiential design.
  • Augment concepts with interactive real-time feature sets and functionalities as they pertain to creative technology and mobile applications.
  • Create images using computer animation and modeling programs including CAD, Rhino and Sketchup.
  • Requires 2 to 4 trips per year to domestic and/or international client sites.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Digital Communications Design or related field.
  • 5 years of experience as a UX Developer, Interactive Developer or similar. We will accept 2 additional years of experience in lieu of a 4-year degree.
  • Creative and client relations experience with agencies.
  • UX design and software development experience for interactive, mobile technology and web platforms.
  • Experience with WebGL, Virtual Reality hardware technology and supporting software components.

Technical Production Artist

TITLE: Technical Production Artist

The role of Technical Production Artist is pretty unique, as you’ll read below under responsibilities.

A general overview; the Technical Production Artist will support the media department by creating templates, workflow systems, and manage AE and C4D renders through Deadline on our in house render farm. The Technical Artist also works with the systems, software and hardware departments to make sure the media departments’ computers are running smoothly and have the latest programs and plug-ins installed.

Interactive Engineer

TITLE: Interactive Engineer

LOCATION:   San Francisco Office

An Interactive Engineer at Obscura works as the hub of a diverse team to integrate contributions into a final production ready system. Interfacing with a broad range of hardware and software systems, the Interactive Engineer is responsible for the final showtime operation of events, and software for installations. The IE leads the development of show and calibration systems, and completes setup and troubleshooting.
