Obscura was invited to create a dramatic audiovisual experience to project on the famous Century Plaza Hotel to celebrate the redevelopment of this iconic Los Angeles landmark. Obscura’s unique content program paid homage to seminal moments in Los Angeles history and its potential future, including the reimagined Century Plaza. As the centerpiece of a VIP cocktail reception on January 19, 2017, we projected our creation on the hotel’s façade, transporting the audience to the heyday of the drive-in theater.
With eye-popping creative content projected at mind-altering magnitude, this one-night-only Century Plaza activation attracted the attention of the Hollywood press as well as the global hospitality media, garnering over 25M in earned media reach. (Photos c/o Amy & Stuart Photography)
Obscura set up 36 J Series Christie projectors on three scaffolding platforms set up in the adjacent plaza to project the 10-minute video on the scrimmed 115′ x 427′ façade of The Century Plaza Hotel. The team worked with the client and event planners to coordinate a tightly-directed run-of-show schedule in conjunction with the speeches and activities planned for the VIP reception.
