The debut of the new Audi A3 sedan was cause for celebration, so the auto maker threw launch events where artists M.I.A. and Janelle Monáe performed—on opposite coasts.

Taking their respective stages in New York and Los Angeles, the two performers appeared together through the magic of life-size holography. To make the duet happen, Obscura collaborated with Vita Motus on creative development and set design.

Obscura’s technical and software teams also designed and deployed a system for architectural mapping of the stage set. The integrated projection technologies created the landmark live event, which Rolling Stone described as “the first hologram performance with integrated video mapping and utilized 3D projection mapping to add layered depth of field perception with animated graphic content.”
