Headquartered in San Francisco, Instituting Science In Schools (I.S.I.S.) is an innovative education-entertainment platform dedicated to increasing inner city students’ interest and aptitude in science, mathematics, and technology. The project engages students through hands-on programs and immersive experiences in science.
Through a partnership with Obscura and Ankh Marketing & Communications, I.S.I.S. has developed a series of youth-focused holographic presentations about science and technology. Obscura helped create the first of these presentations for the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) program. With the support of NASA, the lecture featured hip-hop artist and actor Mos Def along with NASA Astronaut Leland Melvin.
The over eight-foot holographic presentation of Def and Melvin was displayed to a record-breaking audience at Oakland’s Chabot Observatory. The two icons told personal stories of overcoming diversity and shared how a wide variety of academic interests can lead to rewarding career choices.
