Developed by YouTube and the Guggenheim Museum, YouTube Play is an international competition focused on the most exceptional talent in online video. In 2010, when 25 winners out of 23,000 participants were chosen, it was time to celebrate.

YouTube, the Guggenheim, and Obscura partnered to showcase the winning video submissions on a monumental scale. The videos were introduced during the YouTube Play event at the Guggenheim, for which Obscura provided larger-than-life projections precisely mapped to the museum’s iconic interior spiral. Obscura also projected a video montage on the exterior of the building to enthrall passers-by.

A real-time 3D and video playback system triggered and altered media throughout the event, and live performances with synchronized visualizations enhanced the experience. The 360-degree interior surround performance was the most complex calibration project Obscura has produced to date.
